HOLLOW JET DISCHARGE VALVE

The hollow jet valve, also known as a fixed cone valve, is designed to discharge large volumes of high-pressure water, reducing potential downstream damage by converting the flow into a hollow jet that dissipates energy. Its robust design and adjustable capability make it essential for controlling large volumes of water.

The valve consists of a cylindrical body with radial ribs or fins that channel and evenly distribute the water jet, minimising cavitation, vibrations and turbulence. It incorporates a conical seat designed to shape the jet into a fan-like pattern. Annular openings create the outlet. A shutter cylinder (moving part), actuated by two electrically or hydraulically operated stems, adjusts the direction and shape of the water jet by opening or closing the annular openings. This cylinder creates the “hollow jet” which is crucial for energy dissipation. A deflector or diffuser converts the conical jet into a cylindrical one. A sealing ring ensures the valve can close completely without leaks.

A fixed cone valve can discharge either into the atmosphere or underwater.

The main advantages of these valves are:

– High efficiency in managing large volumes of high-pressure water enables energy dissipation without inducing cavitation or vibrations.
– Precision: Control range up to 96%, slow closure.
– Minimises the risk of water hammer, prevents cavitation damage, vibrations.
– Robust construction, designed for years of trouble-free service.

Utilization

This valve is primarily used for closure or regulation in bottom outlets of dams and reservoirs to release water in a controlled manner, dissipate flow energy, and economically regulate output to maintain an ecological flow.

Designed for applications such as:
– Hydroelectric power plants
– Water treatment plants

The most suitable drive for the fixed cone valve depends on factors including valve size, working pressure, operation frequency and control requirements, along with available on-site means and resources. The most common drives for the HD Series valve are hydraulic actuators (cylinders) and electric actuators.

Optionally, the hydraulic drives (cylinders) can be supplied with a hydraulic operation and control unit upon request.

Working pressures

Maximum working pressure adapts to the needs of the customer in every project. These valves are designed to meet specific service conditions (pressure, flow, operating frequency, etc.) and project requirements where they will be installed.

The maximum operating pressures specified in the technical sheet, order confirmation and valve nameplate must not be exceeded.
